Really happy your son is out of the woods! Spring is light at 5 am before the clocks turn back and asparagus in the grocery!

Sending thoughts for your son and you (and your whole family). Very glad he's on the road (or most of the way down that road) to recovery. The cake sounds amazing, and I hope to be able to make it when I get off my deadline roller coaster. Spring for me means the California poppy showing up in all sorts of places, making even abandoned lots look beautiful. And the memory of the seven varieties of lilacs from my childhood home.

I hope your sone is now doing better. Hospitalization is scary never during the best of times and reasons.

I am fortunate that is was gifted with a dozen blood oranges from a nephews tree which i had processed last winter. The fruit was iced and the peal candied and frozen. I can’t wait to make this cake. I like corn meal but also farina for cakes and will have to try both and see the difference.

Would you believe I actually have a jar of blood orange syrup in my refrigerator right now? I’m making this cake soon.

Buy two more blood oranges, slice them thinly into rounds, and candy the slices in your syrup. Decorate cake with syrup AND candied slices.
