What's That I'm Feeling?
Could it be I'm giddy with positivity? Plus: Things that will make you laugh, because it turns out that's a really nice thing to do.
.
Here’s a sentence that’s never been written: I enjoyed my time on social media this week.
After Tim Walz was announced as Kamala Harris’ running mate, the mood on Threads turned positively giddy. #BigDadEnergy started trending as people reacted to the down-home goodness that Tim Walz appears to genuinely bring. Didn’t it feel as if our favorite high school coach had made the big time? And for all the dad jokes, Harris made a brilliant choice in Walz—from his down home charm to his military experience (No, JD Vance, we will not let you swiftboat Walz’s 24 years of service.) to his outspoken support of women’s rights, this guy brings a strong record.
Imagine trying to belittle Tim Walz's decision to make period supplies available for free to students! I sure hope the creep who coined “Tampon Tim” to be a negative slur is proud of themselves. If they were one of Mr. Walz’s students, I suspect Walz would pull them aside for a gentle talk about why it isn’t nice or effective to call people names and how it only makes the name-caller look silly. And then make them write a paper about the cost over time of menstrual products for a woman earning minimum wage. Lordie, how I wish he would have that conversation with the Name Caller-in-Chief, Donald J. Drumpf.
Kamala’s rallies with her VP choice have changed the energy among Democrats. And I appreciate her continued messaging that we have lots of work to do to ensure a win in November. Check that you are registered to vote. If you know of college students or others who need absentee ballots, make sure they sign up for them in time. Many states have enacted laws to make it harder to vote this year.
I’m sorry I don’t have a recipe for you this week. Instead I have gathered some of my favorite posts about Tim Walz from Threads. It’s been a challenging couple of weeks and I thought we all could use some distraction. Our annual trip to see Husband’s 96- and 95-year-old parents in England was muted by 3 of the 4 of us getting Covid as we arrived in England, so we were holed up snuffling and snooey and didn’t see parents until day 10 of our 14-day trip. In that time, as you know, the Bestest Dog Bosco unexpectedly died and we had to say good-bye via Facetime of all the horrible things and our trip home was screwed up by weather and we ended up landing hours later in Boston instead of Newark and had to drive home in an EV that needed recharging halfway. And! And! AND! as soon as I finish this note, I will help my baby boy finish packing for college…which is where we drive him **sniff** tomorrow.
Hug your loved ones. Laugh. Revel in the joy of this week and let’s harness this energy as we head toward November.
And here, friends, are some of my favorites from Threads this week.
Two things. First, you and your family have really had a time of it lately. Sending peaceful vibes and hoping it helps. And second, thank you thank you thank you for all the fabulous Tim Walz posts. I'm laughing out loud and smiling. Great way to start my day.
Thank you for this great post. More great cookies can wait. So sorry for your very hard few weeks.
