Just watched the last show. Absolutely brilliant, and such a high note to end on “You Say Goodbye and I say Hello”! Such a wonderful, generous, genuine example of the best of humanity. We will see him again soon, I’m sure, with a fantastic new setting.

Yes, yes! Such a perfect song, and as you said, a genuine example of the best of humanity.

Such grace and class. The show tonight hit all the right notes. Literally. Can’t wait to see what his next chapter holds.

Yes! Literally! You put it perfectly.

It hurts terribly. I am holding out hope he shows up somewhere else. It is still the reason it happened that really gets me. A rotten sore loser that can't take being laughed at, and that truly irritates me.

It fucking kills me.

I’m bereft. He kept me sane during these awful Trump years. His intelligence, humour and generosity was a testament to his character.

So very sad. It’s all so wrong.

We just finished watching his show get sucked off into the universe with Sir Macca beside him. Hubs and I saw him on The Daily Show, too, and the Colbert Report. Stephen will be back. If no broadcast network has the balls to hire him, he will go independent, like so many others.

BTW... Do you have he and Evie's cookbook "Does This Taste Funny?" Great cookbook!

He coached my nephew's baseball team. Such a good guy.

More to add to the list! ❤️❤️❤️

Last nights show was exceptional! It demonstrated, to everyone who watched, that Stephen Colbert is one of the classiest Talk Show Hosts of Night Time TV & how much people love him! These last 2 weeks were the best way to “finish” the show.

I look forward to following him, AGAIN, wherever he goes. He is truly brilliant & one of the best there is in comedy!

I can’t forget his memorable discussion with Anderson Cooper about grief. He talked about losing his father and two brothers in a plane crash when he was young. His insights on how that affected both his family life and his spiritual life were impressive.

Among the many things for which I am grateful to Stephen Colbert, the introduction of so much amazing music is my favorite. Jon Batiste is a perfect example. Just a gift in musical format. I can’t wait to follow Colbert wherever he goes! 💜🎶💜

I just love this post so much.

I agree with the comments here. This is a travesty, right when we need him most! Maybe a lovely new sugar cookie recipe would help our flagging spirits. (hint, hint!)

Marissa Rothkopf's avatar

You are undoubtedly right about the cookies!

I recorded it to watched today with a fine beverage for a toast to Colbert, his humor, intelligence, humanity ... 💔

The grief of the loss just bursts inside one as the day progresses. And what remains to see and hear and consider … I just memorized your I Scream for Ice Cream Cake and it quelled the sobbing somewhat.

Ice cream is magical.

This beloved show is another casualty of this administration’s plundering of our national treasures. I am sickened & bereft
