This has been a spectacularly difficult week, crazy-making! Visualizing this soup helps soften the edges. Thank you! I love fall because I was born in the fall, and it feels like coming home.

Marissa: It surely is not just you who can barely believe, let alone effectively process, all of this political you-know-what show. Just when I think that I can endure this and approach it sanely & hopefully, we get slammed with more of what is despicable, destructive, and dangerous. Thank you for sharing and for speaking your mind.

Nothing better than a good fall soup although where I live (St Louis County) it's in the low 90s this week, but some of the trees are already turning. Go figure. Fall is my favorite time of year. I'm heading to the local farmers' market to get some mums for my apartment's small front patio because if I take active measures I can make fall weather come. Politics has been like a child's blocks building crashing down in various parts while other parts hold firm. Unfortunately, it's going to get worse before it gets better. It's best to make and eat soup.

This recipe was exactly what I needed today. I’m just done in from this week.

This soup looks sooooo good! I love butternut squash (and delicata squash). Will definitely be making this. Sometimes I need to "tune out" for a few hours. The political madness on the R side is sometimes more than I can take on a 24 hr basis. I grew up near Springfield, OH and watching the insanity there upsets me. Was just in OH in August. Always feels so calm and peaceful there. Makes me mad and sad. Back to Fall. Love the colors, pumpkins, mums, etc., but am over raking leaves and choking cause apparently have a leaf mold allergy.

Omg. I so dislike fall for personal reasons, but this election, the wars and bombing going on!!! I cannot watch the news.

I must say the colors of the trees (Detroit, Michigan) have been soothing with the vibrant colors!

I refuse to give in to the chaotic, calamitous diatribe coming out of magaverse, and the more recent creepy stalker-speak of “I will be your protecter, you will not have to be afraid any longer…” (positively horrific and disgusting.)

Instead riding on the aura of Kamala and Tim right into November. You cannot ignore the power surge of their values, morality and common sense! And, of course, comfort food - which I find here! Soups, cobblers, casserole time of year. I’m especially grooving on a Peach 🍑 Blueberry 🫐 wave now… warm and oozing alongside some vanilla ice cream.

Thank you for your column, writing and recipes! 🍁🧡

Isn’t overwhelming us the point? In all this chaos the important things get lost - Harris’s brilliant campaign, her barnstorming speech in Georgia highlighting the tragic and pointless death of 28 year old Amber Thurman from complications following inadequate medical care following an abortion, the need to encourage people to vote blue all the way down the ballot - stuff like that.

I love Fall. September is my birth month and as an adult, it’s always felt like a time of renewal. Even though I’ve lived in SoCal for many years, a trip into the mountains for some cool crisp air and autumn leaves is always a treat!

And thank you for this recipe, trying it soon!

I have such mixed feelings about fall -- I love it until I remember that winter (and cold and ice and snow) are next! And yes, this week was yet another insane once, news-wise. Also - I love butternut squash! I have a concept of a plan to make this soup....

The soup sounds lovely and comforting. Just what we need in this beyond crazy world we live in.

My favourite soup of all times. I use Garam masala along with cumin , coriander powder and a dash of fennel seeds ground up. Also I add ground up pepper corns in the spice grinder not the pepper mill😂 I serve some crème fraiche on the side and sautéed mushrooms on the side as well. Nothing more says fall than this.

As for the political comedy, a nice scotch or whisky or a beverage of your choice helps.

You can move to Canada. A shade better than your home , me thinks.
