Dark chocolate digestives are the BEST. I also recommend trying the Bonne Maman version of Nutella while you’re here, as I’m not sure it’s available across the pond - it’s delicious and palm oil free
Upon reading the title, the baroque music of "Sound the Trumpets..." immediately started running through my mind. Unfortunately, although I could hear it in my head, I couldn't remember which, out of the millions, um, thousands, no, hundreds of baroque pieces of music with which I am familiar it actually was. Then I realized I could google it. It's one of 6 Odes composed by Henry Purcell for the birthday of Queen Mary in 1694 and is part of Come, ye sons of art. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUlVxmz5_tY
Thank you for tipping me off about the Waitrose ginger & dark chocolate biscuits. Yum, yum, yum! I’ll have to see if our European market carries them. If not, then I may have to make something similar: Ginger shortbread dunked in chocolate, perhaps.
It's like you've read my mind...I've been thinking of asking you to develop (if you haven't already) the perfect make-at-home British biscuit. Have you? Will you? Can you? We're tryna quit the pre-packaged palm-oil-soaked ones. (I live in Britain, married to a Brit. So this is an urgent need, as I'm sure you'll understand.) Thanks!
Agreed! McVites dark chocolate digestives are the BEST British biscuit. Hope you enjoyed watching Spain win! Maybe you need to set up an import business for those ginger shortbread choc coated biccies- sound amazing 😋
All of that sounds amazing! In what seems like a lifetime ago now, I used to get slices of the most delicious lemon courgette cake from a tiny coffee shop in the village of Wivenhoe. Have a wonderful trip!
The National Trust (looks after the stately houses, etc) has a series of cookbooks on tea, bread, etc. I would think one would have a recipe for crumpets. Also check out Jane Grigson. And I *think* Ina Garten has one - the producers of her tv show are from the UK & some British foods are in her cookbooks. And then the excellent Time-Life Cooking in the British Isles might have one. Sorry to send you off to online used book sellers, but its fabulous that we have this resource now. The National Trust series is currently in print & available thru Amazon.
I’ve made crumpets before using tuna cans as molds. But the teddy bears are killing me. Off to look for teddy bear pancake molds.
YES!!! All. The. British. BISCUITS!!! ALL OF THEM!!! Can't wait to try the Waitrose Ginger Chocolates ones on my upcoming trip to London later this fall... they are on the shopping list now!

& yes, non-American chocolate tends to be better.
They also have grapefruit flavored gin

Miranda Gore-Browne who was on an early series of Bake Off has a cookbook called ‘biscuit’ which I think is exactly what you want!
Thank you, I'll check it out!
