A list of inspiring, thought-provoking (and some escapist) books for tough times.
When this world becomes too much for me, I escape to Pern. The Dragonrider series by Anne and Todd McCaffrey. I can lose myself there a while.
Love your list, Marissa! I'd like to add "What Ho, Jeeves," and every other book written by the illustrious genius, P.G. Wodehouse!
First You Have to Row a Little Boat by Richard Bode
I am currently reading 2 books that are each in their own and very different way, transporting.
The Hare with Amber Eyes by Edmund de Waal
and Still Life by Sarah Winman
The book that absolutely must be added is A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry.
And since you did include Stephen King, I would add my two absolute favorites (and I have many favorites among his books): Bag Of Bones and Gerald’s Game.
