Today. After yoga. This might be dinner. There you go. I used as few words as possible. And I thank you. Comfort received.

Having moved from Sonoma County 8 years ago, I miss Gravenstein apples very much! Do you live close to there? Grannysmith apples pale in comparison.

I wisely had my kids go to college near really good apple orchards.

I only got one week of the Gravensteins this year. Was feeling sick the second week of the harvest, turned out to be Covid. By the time I got back to the farmers market, the Gravensteins were finished, both from Hale and DeVoto. Something to look forward to next year!

Marissa, you are my hero! For the 3rd year in a row, one of your recipes will be my Thanksgiving dessert. The first one was another upside-down cake, I think it was pumpkin-cranberry? This one looks even better - I can't wait to try it!! But I might also have to make your chocolate pecan pie that I found last year, since everyone loved it so much. Who needs turkey when we can make all these amazing desserts??

Thank you! It's an honor to be part of your celebrations. I was thinking the other day that we don't do Thanksgiving correctly in my house. We need to eat all the savory main meal...then have a break and then a few hours later, have a dessert and cheese buffet. Then we can have soooo many desserts.

I'd love a chat about Thanksgiving dessert recipes! We're always in search of lactose-free desserts for Thanksgiving or other festive occasions.

I'll second the lactose free, I then also make them egg free and use a gluten free baking mix but honestly its the dairy thats the most difficult part for me. My daughter has multiple medication induced allergies and its frustrating to work around ,

As we approach the holidays, it has often been my wish to bake an Italian Pandoro. Besides buying the correct pan for baking, Italians use some kind of flavoring unknown to me. If you have a recipe that is doable, please share.

I've never made one...but it sounds like a nifty challenge. King Arthur Baking sells "Fiori di Sicilia," which is the flavor you are looking for.

I found this recipe last year and I think it is approachable, like not too intimidating, though I had to translate it from Italian. They use a jelly-like vanilla which is real vanilla beans in a sugar paste. Wondering if I can sub plain vanilla instead? I will add some of the Fiori di Sicilia as you mentioned. Here is the video to said recipe. I am translating Manitoba flour to Bread Flour and purchasing 00 flour for the recipe. Wish me luck! https://www.tuorlorosso.it/pandoro-facile-ad-impasto-unico/

I’ve saved the recipe and will make it for Thanksgiving so its magic can save us all. My dear adult children and my son’s dear partner will be with us. And so too will you be with this incredible sounding cake. Having my birthday on Halloween, I am partial to pumpkin. Apples and maple caramel are also favorites. Thank you Marissa. This is just what I needed, and I hadn’t realized it until I read your Substack for today. Love to you. 🩵🧡💚💛💜♥️💙

Marissa does not just feed our tummies with scrumptious food, she feeds our souls with a shared sense of community and perserverence, both of which are sorely needed these days.

Only rats jump ship first and we aren't even taking on water! Whatever the sea state, we hold these truths to be self evident and that's where we shall begin... with the honest to God truth of who Trump is, what he is, what he intends to do and how he will try and do it. We will get plenty of help which we will need, for sure but our friends are many. Roll-up your sleeves because it's going to get downright dirty lowdown with these defects. God have mercy on some for they haven't yet realized the extent of their sin. Let us pray and rise up. 🙌

I just took this cake out of the oven. I texted the PDF of the recipe to myself, or so I thought. I actually sent it to my friend in Northern California, and she immediately texted back to tell me how wonderful I am to bring a cake when we come visit her this weekend. We can eat it all weekend, she enthused. So I made it and it’s gorgeous and smells wonderful. I’ll bring it to her house and she’s so excited. Look at all the goodness and healing you’ve already shared, Marissa. Thank you! My kids and my son’s sweet partner will have it on Thanksgiving as planned, but my old group of friends will try it tomorrow night. 💙🩵❤️💗💜💚🧡
