Thinner cake means more crumbs in every bite. Sounds like a winner to this Jersey girl.

JERSEY RULES. Do you know there are people who think crumb cake is from New York? Silly people. We know where the best crumb cake comes from.

Marissa, I made this cake and it received rave reviews. Used Fuji apples from the Ellijay GA apple festival. The chunks of streusel were so big I had difficulty checking for doneness, but they were so worth it. (When is that POS former guy going to jail? Such a long slog. Sigh.)

I know that issue with the streusel! They create a nearly impermeable shield if done correctly! I am so glad you made this and people (rightly) loved it.

The cake looks perfect. And the question is the one that's top of mind for all of us. I think we'll get down to an Al Capone vs IRS situation.. I truly don't think he'll be held accountable for any of the issues that matter, i.e., rape, stealing classified docs, etc. And that will be a blow to America, a kick to democracy and Rule of Law.

Ahhhhh. sigh. I wish I didn't agree with you about Capone, etc.

Hi Jim! Sorry to hear it! I would agree the apples cleaned your toothpick off. Another good secondary test is to give the cake a little pat with your finger and if it doesn't give too much it’s done. You can rescue it. Cover loosely (tent) the top and slow bake it in a preheated 325 degree oven. I promise the recipe works!

Ok, will do. Thanks for the quick reply.

trump is running out the clock in every case he is embroiled in, meaning he has no intention of testifying b4 the J6 committee (I saw where he said he would but only if on live tv, and if it is anything we should know about the j6 committee it is that they won't put him on live tv for him to make a mockery of the proceedings). Yes, he will continue to grift off of every one of his cases. As for the DOJ and the classified documents, trump may have already shared them with whomever, but if he wasn't going to sell them to the highest bidder, why take them? I have been told that IF he had sold them, we'd already know about it because we have agents in certain countries who'd know and let us know. If that is true, then my fallback is that he hoped to use them as a "stay out of prison" card he could play, which I don't think DOJ would allow. That said, my hope is that he is put in solitary confinement with an hour per day out in the "yard" by himself with no access to any means of communication with the outside his cell world. Let him sit silently and contemplate his situation or his library (hahahaha). Since he has "great words", allow him one book at a time to read. He an have no writing instruments because he could harm himself. His meals would be alone, and he'd be forced to eat vegetables for a change of pace. Nothing in his cell except his prison bed & urinal. The guards can spray him down once a day in the showers. I remember when the CIA gave up on Manuel Noriega, and once he was convicted, no one ever saw or heard from him again, which is what we need with trump. People will forget about him if they don't hear from him or see him. The end.

I have to go to the grocery store to get the ingredients I do not have to make this cake. I can almost smell it baking and I know it'll taste amazing.

I believe FPOTUS took the Fifth during his deposition in the E. Jean Carroll case because he knows he's guilty and his lawyers know he can't control himself when talking. I think he'll delay the Jan. 6 Committee subpoena thinking that the Committee will end its work at the end of December and the GOP will take over the House and the Senate in the midterms. (I don't believe this will happen.) FPOTUS is afraid of any accountability since he knows he has broken numerous laws and he doesn't care. He believes he's entitled as do most Republicans. Taking the 5th in the Carroll case will hurt him in court , he also won't take the stand, which are a good things. Delaying the Jan. 6 Committee doesn't really matter in the long run since we all know he's guilty of instigating the Jan. 6 takeover and trying to destroy the peaceful transfer of power. It'll take a while but eventually I believe he will have his comeuppance and we will all smile. It won't be perfect, but it will feel good.

I’m sorry to hear this. What kind of pan did you bake it in? So many variables. Including moisture in the apples, etc. Regardless, sorry the cake is taking longer than you expected

So, I made this recipe today, but it was a partial fail for me. Surprising as I am in New Jersey. Not sure what I did wrong. But, the center of the cake was raw but the outside of the cake along the edger was cooked and delicious, so we know it will be good. I used a 9” round metal cake pan. I cooked it at 350 for around 37 minutes and the streusel looked a nice brown. I put in a wooden stick a couple of times and it came out clean, but I wonder if the apples were just cleaning the stick off as it came out. Do you think it was a matter of not cooking long enough or I should lower the temp a bit and cook longer? I did wonder how the cake would cook with a wet layer of apples on top of it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Marissa, I bookmarked this delicious looking recipe and I plan to make it for my pumpkin-loving Dad to take with me when I visit family next week. Two questions: can I remove it from the pan, or would that be tempting a streusel spillage? Also, can it be made ahead and frozen? As I'm typing this I suspect the answer to both questions is that neither are advised. Sigh... I shall look for another pumpkin-y something in that case. The whole family will be celebrating America's clear rejection of election deniers in addition to Thanksgiving!
