I actually had to buy a new box of toothpicks a couple weeks ago. I'm pretty sure I bought the previous box in San Antonio, which means it was more than 17 years old! (Also, this cake sound scrumptious!)

Welcome to your new box of toothpicks! Here's to another 17 years!

Talk about generating a Pavlovian response. FYI: You can also add painted hard-boiled eggs to your Haft-Sin table. Painted eggs pre-date Christianity and have always been used to celebrate fertility.

Can't wait to make this cake - sounds delicious and definitely doable (esp for the newbies bakers among us, i.e. me). The Regime is really good. Kate Winslet is perfect in this role.

I'm half-Finnish and cardamon shows up often in that cuisine. Thanks for a new spring recipe! Nice cake for Easter Sunday brunch. Hyvää pääsiäistä! Happy Easter!

I made this cake and it is luscious. The hardest part was waiting for the cake to cure. Alas I could not wait anymore and had a little slice for breakfast. My husband followed with a resounding, “That’s good!” The cake is moist, and full of flavor. It’s not as sweet as I had imagined. I doubled the syrup, but did not use it all. Cardamom is a new taste for me so I used the full measure so I would not doubt its presence. The taste of the spice doesn’t offend me, but perhaps it is acquired. Happy to celebrate a full tree of Dancy mandarins with this recipe. Will make it again.

Cardamom is def an acquired taste, but once you have it, you see how many possibilities it offers...sometimes I put a pinch in with my coffee when I brew...Mmm

But, oh! I'm sooooooooo jealous of a tree covered in mandarins. I will try to post a picture of my indoor lemon tree for comparison tomorrow...

Last year was definitely an "off" year for the not so little mandarin tree. The best ones need a ladder to reach. The rain we've recently had helped to wake up all the trees. Had zero apricots last year and resorted to a u-pick orchard to the south. We have mandarins, apricots, apples, and cherries.

You make me laugh, I learn from your tips, I’ve always wondered about those toothpicks, too. Yes, I need to make this and I dearly love reading your work.

I thank you so much for being here and on this ride with me!

Thank-you for this recipe! I have a tree full of clementines and I can't give them away fast enough. Today I picked a bucket full, peeled them and stashed them in my fridge. I will find my toothpicks and give this recipe a try. I'm so glad someone else noticed that Claire McCaskill frequently has something yummy on her sideboard.

i'm always peeping at her sideboard to see what she has there. It's a terrific distraction from the news!

Maybe I can write to her and have her send us some recipes!

I find Splenda for Baking and Brown Sugar Splenda here in the Ann Arbor area of Michigan in my local grocery store, which is part of the Country Market chain. Of course, they are a local Michigan grocery store chain which probably won't help most people. Also, my local independent little quick type store in our little town carries both also, but the price is high.

The only way I can reliably buy Splenda for Baking is through Amazon. My local groceries in SF Bay (East Bay) are constantly changing their stock and bring in new (more expensive) sugar substitutes.

Yes! I am lucky to live in ' Stuck in the mud' Great Lakes Region. I have in the past, during the Pandemic found that using Subscribe and Save Amazon Shopping program saved me money at Amazon. You don't need to be a Prime member either to save money on shipping.

My mom used to make cookies with a very similar recipe that were to die for. I want to try this but we’re getting so much snow I’m going to hold off till I know the power won’t go down.

There was a lot of crazy snow this weekend. How did you fare? And tell me more about your mom's recipe. Do you still have it?

This sounds absolutely wonderful! and the perfect antidote for a rainy, chilly spring day here - though it is perfect knitting weather.
