Cookies because procrastibaking. Also, like any good Jew, I know all of the verses to all of the Christmas carols. This is because, I too, have sung in choirs most of my life. You haven't lived until you've sung tenor (as a soprano with a wide range) from "Christmas in Song," reading bass clef because your chamber choir can't get a tenor for a quartet for a caroling gig.
One of my favorites is Harry Belafonte's Jehovah The Lord Will Provide because ... Harry Belafonte!! His Christmas album was one of my mother’s favorites and it brings back great memories.
Being in retail for years means there are a lot of least favorite Christmas songs. Let’s just not go there.
Worst: Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer. No explanation necessary. Best: I'll be home for Christmas. Makes we weep regardless of where I am, what I'm doing, or whom I'm with when I hear it. Question is, why does that make it a favorite? Perhaps I need a shrink for that one. However- spending the day baking is by far one of the very best ways to celebrate the whole crazy season. Happy happy and merry merry everything to you.
I'm in retail, so I really don't have a favorite Christmas song because the playlist repeats multiple times a day BUT 'Do They Know It's Christmas' will make me stop and try to identify each and every artist singing. And yes, I WILL tell all my younger co workers who everyone is, whether or not they care, lol (it actually hasn't been on the playlist for a few years, of course not, why not listen to two different versions of 'All I Want For Christmas Is You?' instead?
My favorite Christmas Song is "Carole of the Bells". Transiberian Orchestra does a great rendition but I saw it performed live with handbells during a local Victorian Christmas Festival and it was unforgettable and mesmerizing. I love the differences in tempo. Also, instrumentally it is just as interesting as with vocals. What Christmas song is my least favorite? Hard to choose but the sappy song about the little boy buying his dying mother shoes is right up j. I tend to dislike heavily religious liturgical depressing Christmas songs as well. My Daddy loved "Silver Bells" and I have great memories of him bursting into song when it came on the radio, and he wasn't the bursting into song type.
When I was in High School, back in the 70’s, (yikes) my best friend and I re-wrote the lyrics to a slew of Christmas Songs, the more degenerate and filled with sexual innuendo the better. My mother found the lyrics. She didn’t get the joke at all. I still remember a lot of our made up lyrics and while everyone else is listening to Christmas Carols, in my mind, I’m singing my own made up version to this day. LOL
“Would you like to swing from a Star”, we converted to (and warning, they’re bad) “Would you like to sit on my face, it’s a very comfortable place”. Boy was I in trouble!!!
OMG, I missed that song. I’ll have to look it up. Back in the AM/AM radio days.
For the 12 Days of Christmas, our 1st line was, “On the 1st day of Christmas my true love gave to me a Penis for my Pu@@y. Last time I shared some of these faux lyrics was 2 decades ago, on a Cruise. LOL. I got invited to Christmas Parties that year just for some songs.
Songs that irritates me are The 12 Days of Christmas and Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer. Favorite songs I hear around Christmas is Ava Maria and The First Noel and Joan Baez's Christmas CD, Noel. Seem to have lots of favs. Silent Night at the end of midnight mass. The lights are turned off, only candles. Beautiful.
I don’t want to choose. All delicious and wishing you a wonderful holiday season. Not only does the light shine through when we light the Menorah but so does your sweetness!
Oh, honey, I know that song. And my kids like to torment me with "Happy the Christmas Clown," sung by Conway Twitty which is all sorts of wrong. A clown? At Christmas? SHUDDER.
ROFL. I read your comment so quickly that I first thought that was a real Christmas song. "I saw Rudy blaming Jesus" (sung to the tune of the "I saw Mommy Kissing Santa." Let's write those lyrics!!!
My favorite Christmas song is the orchestral version of Sleigh Ride. No lyrics, just the beauty of the orchestra and my imagination of actually riding in a sleigh. I live in the desert SW.
Also, there's Mel Torme's "Christmas Song," which we call "Everybody Knows a Turkey."

And on a more positive note (I think?) The Chieftains’ St. Stephen’s Day Murders ❤️
Least fave: The Little Drummer Boy. Gives me a sense of impending doom. Don’t know why...

I need a copy of all of these. Asap. (Also, high school 1970-74)
“Would you like to swing from a Star”, we converted to (and warning, they’re bad) “Would you like to sit on my face, it’s a very comfortable place”. Boy was I in trouble!!!
OMG that's wonderful!!! now I really need them all. I am reminded of a line from a woman's band in the late 70's: I go bananas and cream over you....
OMG, I missed that song. I’ll have to look it up. Back in the AM/AM radio days.

And our kids think we don't have any idea about this stuff, they think they invented raunchy. Ha
Oh, the things we could teach and tell them.
We need Christmas karaoke!
I'm right there with you.

Right back at you! Thank you!
Favorite: Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree, Brenda Lee version. Least favorite: Little Drummer Boy, ANY version.
Favorite sacred one... Once in Royal David's City.
I have never heard of a chocolate linzer tart bar, but I must have it!! I am loving this cookie series!!!
Do not Google “Dominic the Christmas Donkey.”
It’s worse than “I want a hippopotamus for Christmas.”
Oh, honey, I know that song. And my kids like to torment me with "Happy the Christmas Clown," sung by Conway Twitty which is all sorts of wrong. A clown? At Christmas? SHUDDER.
Your comment is the funniest thing I’ve seen this morning. And I watched Rudy blaming Jesus for every decision he made, so….

And so Viviana, our delightful visitor from Mexico, got out chatGPT and asked for lyrics. Try it!

Favorite Christmas songs Coventry Carol and What Child is This probably because of the slightly plaintive and haunting quality
