I just made a batch of these and they are delicious- but they stayed flat and did not puff up. What is the most likely culprit of what I did wrong? Any ideas?

Weird. I’m assuming you measured correctly. Was the butter super-warm?

I've just made a few batches of these today to check, and realized the problem is with my words, not the recipe, and DEFINITELY not with you. These cookies are light like clouds, but not puffy. They spread and only ever so hump in the middle. I also doubled the recipe for frosting. It may be that this year I am in an icing mood. I apologize for any confusion!

Ahhh, perfect! They are definitely light as clouds, and soooo delish. I shared with neighbors and they all were raving about them this morning 🥰

Bosco! I know what the quotes mean in “last” since my HS senior just decided against submitting his final application - to my alma mater which I never thought was a good fit for him but didn’t discourage him. We’ll see how the rest of the early action acceptances play out and there may be another “last.”

Can we freeze this batter to bake later in the week?

I grew up making what is a very similar cookie. Recipe is at least 65 years old and in our family is called Mrs. Westfield’s cookie as that was the origin of the recipe. I have eaten all I possibly can every Christmas. Tomorrow I am going to buy the updated ingredients in your recipe and give it a try!

I'd love some suggestions for special gluten-free holiday cookies. Have a close friend who's gone gluten-free I want to bake some treats for.

Also, any good recipes for chocolate-cherry flavor combo. I've been disappointed with previous attempts. Cherry flavor gets lost.
