Have you run across Lillian Gilbreth in your research yet? I'm a little bit obsessed with her research on kitchen efficiency and ideas about kitchen design. There's a fascinating podcast episode about her here if you're interested: http://thehistorychicks.com/episode-59-lillian-gilbreth/
Ha! She's one of the people I'm writing about just now. She is fascinating on so many levels. I'm personally fascinated because she raised her dozen kids here in Montclair where I live, so I think about them all the time. Also, she was brilliant and claims to have invented the pedal bin, among other things. But the thing that knocked me for a loop was she was big-time eugenist...which is one of the reasons she had so many kids...Which: EW. Sort of took some of the bloom off the rose, er, lily, um, for me. Have you read much about Christine Frederick? She was into kitchen efficiency a little before Lillian...
Yikes! I didn't know about the eugenics part, though that makes sense, considering what a popular idea that was at the time. I will read up on Christine Frederick--thanks for the rec!
Marissa! I am at my leisure!
Ready for the Sex High Jean!
