Pet story: my dog’s name is Samson. He’s an unfurosious German Shepherd, and a great coward.

Does the five spice substitute all the spices? Or just for the five spice?

Made the ginger chews at last and they turned out great! All perfectly round, so don’t sweat making perfectly round balls. And they do harden a bit on cooling (not much tho) so ok to take them out on the softer side. A note that a fun twist my baking companion suggested was to put a small piece of the crystallized ginger in the top of each cookie for a bit of extra ginger kick.

Just wanted to let you know these are amazingly good cookies! I made the oatmeal, Irish cream choc and these so far. The gingers were my daughter’s and my favorite. Which, since it’s not in the chocolate family, is a very big deal!

Hi Marissa. I just finished putting this recipe together. It’s in the fridge. There’s a mistake in the steps. The egg is left out, and sugar is mentioned in two steps. No biggie. Added egg at the end. The raw dough is so good I can’t wait to bake them tomorrow. Also I used the Lyles Golden Syrup. I had bought it for an earlier recipe that I never got to. Oh my heavens. That stuff is not misnamed. Golden indeed. It’s so good. I need to know what else to use it in!

Thank you so much for the heads up! And my extreme apologies for the typos. I've fixed the recipe so no one need worry. Thank you for figuring it out. I'm embarrassed. But glad you like the Golden Syrup. It's so. v. delicious. Try making a pecan pie with that instead of corn syrup. I also have a really easy warm dessert I make that involves putting golden syrup on the bottom of the ban, and putting orange-y cake batter on top, then you bake and and and oh-very-yes.

No need for apology. You do such a great service - food for the body and soul! Thanks for the ideas to use the syrup. I saw an expiration date, so, I’ll be using it up really really soon!
