Over here we celebrate π day on 22 July (22/7 is slightly closer to π than 3.14, which doesn’t work for us anyway because today is 14/3.) That passion fruit pie looks perfect for late July and I now have time to source the passionfruit juice/pulp. No pie here today but if there had been it would have been a Shaker Lemon Pie using Kate McDermott’s pie crust recipe.

That is good to know. I can now celebrate pi day twice a year.

I made my traditional Pi Day pie, yuzu pie. It's like key lime pie, except that I substitute yuzu juice. I use the Smitten Kitchen recipe (no zest, though—my juice comes from a bottle). It's so good, and it's the easiest pie to make. Somebody gave me a "pi" dish, and that's what I bake it in. So good!

Ohhhhhh dang that sounds delicious.

Excursion/incursion... BRILLIANT! I never once thought of that! Pie crusts off to you, Marissa!

I made a "Magic" Lemon pie for PI Day. It was delicious, but didn't form the layers because I goofed up and got some yolk in the egg whites. (It was a double yolk egg and I didn't catch it in time or get all of it when rescuing).

Give Norman a hug from his Auntie Mel in Florida!

Norm says “thanks” and don’t worry about the imperfect pie. He says he’ll eat it.

Thank you, Marissa! 🩷🥧🩷

Try a Haiku for pi day- here are two of mine:

once a year three slash one four

becomes three point one four

the circle of life

hail Archimedes!

and his magic number—

3.14 (plus a smidge)

Yes, I agree. I bought a guava pie because my grocery celebrates 3.14 & price was $3.14,😂 and I made a classic key lime with ponegranate sauce on top.

I'd add the pictures but can't for some reason.

Mini shepherds pies for my grandson’s first birthday party! Puff pastry squares in cupcake tin, filled with appropriate meat and veg, and topped with mashed potatoes plus gravy after baking. Big hit!

I’m making Kiwi Honey Galette here. But I have to wait until tomorrow to actually put it together. But it should be good even if I’m a day late.

"everyday" is an adjective

Ooooooooooof. And zoinks. And aside from the thousands of people who read this error of mine, let's all keep it a secret from my students, okay? The students I lecture on the importance of proofreading and pausing before hitting "send." Thanks, Matt.

I feel bad being pedantic (and maybe I too should have paused before hitting "send") but I feel like this distinction is being lost and so many people seem generally unaware of it (kids these days, you know?) So sometimes I can't help screaming into the void. Anyway, really enjoyed your piece.

Marissa Rothkopf's avatar

Nah. It’s an embarrassing mistake on my part. I’m glad you pointed it out. I would’ve been happier if my brain had pointed it out before I hit send.

Thank you for the article, Marissa Eli Whitney and his cotton gin ! Happy birthday 🎈🎉🎂🎁🎊 to your brother. I woke up way too late. But it’s Saturday. Just finished watching Dustin Hoffman in Tootsie. I needed a little comfort in laughter about this comedy, I worry about those who are far away fighting this war. Those pies are delicious and I have an apple pie I need to get baked . Oh my the Philadelphia Story. Miss Hepburn raised 40 thousand dollars for this movie to get made. I love old movies. Especially with Oatmeal Cookies and raisins I am still woke about oatmeal raisin cookies. It seems I can’t get enough of them to eat. I would appreciate having the wheat bread recipe. Thanks!
