As beyond delicious as this recipe is, the best part is this parenthetical note, which I have copied and taped to the refrigerator door: “At some point you will notice the mixture looks rather curdled and you may worry. Don’t. Worry about things you can’t control, which is much more satisfying and contributes to anxiety more efficiently.” I hereby award you the trophy for Best Advice Heard All Day.

Ha! I'm glad it resonated with you! And lest you think I just spout such things, nay, I **live** them. LOL.

German chocolate cake. I found a recipe for inside-out German chocolate cake (pecan, caramel, coconut part is the filling, ganache goes over the top) that I'm going to make this year. I actually enjoyed watching the State of the Union and listening to all that Biden has accomplished. I also enjoyed his take down of the crazies (as Governor Sanders would say). He knew when to engage and when to ignore. The GOP rebuttal was bizarre, not surprisingly, but I was amazed at how often Gov. Sanders talked about herself. She used her time as PR for herself, not her party.

I think you were brave for watching the Sanders portion of it all. I could not stomach it. I spent enough time watching her lie and for my mental health, went to bed! Inside-out German chocolate cake I would stay awake for, however. No one in my house likes it, so I need to find an audience.

I haven’t had a decent German chocolate cake in years. I remember the ones that were a light, reddish brown color cake with the wonderful pecan coconut filling and topping. Ah, the good old days.

My favorite birthday "cake" is lemon meringue pie! ;-) But if I were to choose an actual cake, it would be yellow cake with chocolate frosting which was probably the most common cake of my childhood. And I loved watching Joe mess with the crazies!

Mile-high lemon meringue pie is a party pie, that's for sure! I should probably make one of those soon again! Mmmm.

Ginger snap crust always with my pumpkin cheesecake...I grew up with my grandmother's olde worlde cheesecake recipe that used zwieback in the crust...which always seemed a bit of a disappointment to me. Me? the perfect crust on a plain cheesecake is made from Oreo.

My next homemade cheese cake will be made with the ginger snaps. I’ve had the Oreo crust with pumpkin pie - yum!

Black Forest. Hands down. There is no better cake on the planet. It used to be everywhere. For some reason it is out of style. I grew up in Franklin Twp in Somerset County NJ. I did not know how lucky I was. I lived near a bakery called Gina’s on Easton Ave. The baker was fm Austria and everything was divine. I now live in No. Va. there is a Swiss bakery that does an ok job. But does not compare.

Ahhhhh, black forest cake. Schwarzwalderkirschtorte! My memory of childhood birthday cakes is strong, too. Would you ever want to make your own Black Forest Cake?

Yes I would like to know how to make it. But I think it’s complicated. It’s whip cream, not buttercream. It’s super light, lots of layers, & chocolatey w fabulous cherries probably soaked for some length of time in some kind of liquor, w dark chocolate shavings. It is an amazing cake that has apparently gone out of style probably b/c it’s too time-consuming & expensive to make. I took everything for granted and now it’s gone. Even German restaurants don’t have it on the menu. WHAT?

I’m an outlier here, but I would like to know more about the assassin salad. PS- I eat like a five year old, and my favorite birthday cake is yellow with chocolate frosting.
