About those who stomped off because of your politics: they will be back when they realize he's doing it to them too!! Happy Birthday, Marissa.

Please keep writing about politics. It's so hard for us in the UK to keep the faith that the whole of the US is not batshit crazy. And that chocolate cake will rule the world xx

So many of us are not crazy—we are stunned, shocked, and dismayed and working to resist and change what's going on. Also baking.

So many of us did not vote for this because we knew what would happen! So many who voted for him thinking about the economy or were protesting against the Democrats are now sorry they didn't listen to us. The rest...we will see if they really don't understand what this will do to their lives. It's awful and scary at the moment but we need to stand tall and rebuild our country one piece at a time...and eat cake!

I just love your subtract. I’m a Canadian and I just really like you ( and many other Americans as well ) and your humour, and outrage and your writing style. Oh yes, and many of your recipes.

Wishing you a very happy birthday—we have to take our moments of joy at this time for so many reasons, not the least of which is because they don't understand or feel joy or beauty and we do. So please celebrate and enjoy your beautiful cake (and spring, and family, and animals).

Let them eat cake, indeed!!!! And it will never be as good as your amazing combination of treats for our soul while we share thoughts for these troubled, and troubling, times!

It was also my birthday earlier in the week (3/25) and I still haven't celebrated as my husband had, and still has, the flu. Thanks for the inspiration: I think I'll bake myself a cake!

What a coincidence! This is the flag of my country as well! And as far as the people who have stomped off because they think that cake and the cognitive dissonance we are living with on a daily basis do not go together, I say LET THEM GO! MORE CAKE FOR US!!!! Pass the Prosecco!

My birthday was last week and my first thought was, "how did she know it was my birthday?" I will be joining you in outrage and baking this week. Thank you you and I do hope your birthday was wonderful.

I like the flag of the Republic of Cake! And it's an infinitely variable flag, yet always correct, no matter the color of frosting or flavor of cake layers.

Out of many cakes, one.

I don’t bake as often as I used to OR as often as I’d like these days, but reading your posts always make me want to bake. Like, a lot. This one especially. Oh, and the lemon cake. Okay-all of them! So yum. 💜
