Sheet pan: Coho salmon w lemon-garlic aioli, roasted potatoes with smoked olive oil and chili powder, asparagus with zata'ar.
Finally had to tie one of my tomato plants to the condo parapet fence--it was sprawling everywhere and had totally outgrown its pot. Still has about 60-80 Sungolds on it, so I want to give it as much help as possible! (salsa, anyone?--looks like about 30 more peppers on those plants as well.)
Tomatoes, corn, sweet onions, basil, some good bread to sop up the juices - what more does a person need? Oh, right, cookies. Definitely cookies. Your book should solve that problem nicely!
The last two weeks of the summer are all about corn, peaches, and tomatoes in our family. We've grilled corn-on-the-cob almost every night. We brush with olive oil, kosher salt, wrap in foil and grill. My daughter made peach crisp -- peaches topped with oatmeal, brown sugar, butter. And my mom our favorite summer pasta -- shells, Italian fontina and romano cheese, tomatoes, basil, mint, olive oil. Cook and drain the pasta, mix in cheese when it is still warm so it melts, and then toss in the tomato/basil/mint/olive oil. So good and particularly now when the tomatoes are amazing.
Finally found a great big round pot to plant my succulents in, repotting a Christmas Cactus, and avoiding cooking. Preparing a Caesar Salad and a Barley-Mushroom soup for the week ahead (I do 2-3 dishes each weekend), and relaxing, resting. I dropped off Twitter, FB, Insta., and got dropped off Blue Sky for making too many friends, so depending on podcast/articles from trusted sources. Trying to stay sane. Best to you Marissa.
Thanks for the Amy Poehler suggestion! Just stumbled upon another wildy goofy movie she did but with Will Ferrel, called The House. Almost fell off the couch laughing. As for Jia T's review of Gilbert's book: I read that review and reread it and re-reread it and I still cannot understand a full 75% of it (not the book, the review). I read the book, though, and did understand that! And interviewed Liz (upcoming in Allure); agree about your own assessment. Not what we might've expected. Anyway, on to a summer-y pie! xo
Very sorry to hear that Life, with a capital "L" is upending you. I hope you find yourself right side up soon! I made a pluot tart yesterday, using the Zuni Cafe cookbook's recipe (which is basically throwing some sugar and pinches of salt on the cut up fruit, and making a crust which tests the theory of how little flour can be used to hold butter together). There was some fruit leftover, so I tossed it into a saucepan and made pluot goop, which I had on my toast this morning. Trying to limit the doomscrolling, and continuing to make art.
Absolutely love the video with Norman> Hope he gets paid good biscuits for his help in promoting the new book . I have already preordered the book. Look forward to getting it.
Visiting daughter and family in Wyoming. She and her husband are working on putting together a small, wooden greenhouse she bought as a kit. Had salmon last night, we’re having a tri tip roast for dinner tonight. Flying home in the morning.
I was going to make cookies for my church coffee hour yesterday, but I took the lazy way out and went to Costco instead. Still eyeing all the different kinds of chocolate chips in my pantry. Sigh. Hopefully, I'll find the motivation soon. Recently made gemista, Greek stuffed peppers. Oh, so good.

Lots of pies, crostatas and muffins here for the steady stream of late summer visitors.

I like how you think!

Discovered the beauty of Butterfly Wing Pea tea!

"Pluot gloop." I'm going to remember that next time I over-buy at the farmer's market.

1) Baked a lemon bundt cake with lemons from my back yard tree, America's Test Kitchen recipe. Turned out well!
2) Marched in local Labor Day event in Mountain View, CA. Hot but fun. Lots of encouraging honks from cars passing by.
3) Baking chocolate chip cookies to use as ice cream sandwiches for my friend's potluck.
Life is good (some of the time).

Hot dogs, corn on the cob, and apple pie, of course. Your dahlias are very pretty, btw.
