When my guest Miles Taylor said he wanted to make not just any chai cookies, but Taylor Swift’s chai cookies, I was a bit taken aback. (And not just because I am Team Harry Styles and Swift wrote songs about him after their breakup!) But can a genius songwriter also know her cookies?
Yup.
The recipe is easy. I found a version of it on the Taste of Home site. (Taste of Home deserves the clicks, so I’m not reprinting it on my page.)
The cookie is extremely delicate, thanks to the blend of butter and vegetable oil. The recipe instructions call for the dough to be refrigerated, and to allow the glaze to sit for a while before using it. Don’t ignore that. Also: be like me and boost the spices in the glaze; I also added powdered ginger and cloves.
Please listen to the podcast and bake along with me and Miles. He was a terrific-best-in-class guest and an eager-if-clueless baker, and poured open his heart about life in the Trump White House, the real threat of domestic terrorism and the future of politics in this country. We also, somehow, managed to laugh a lot. Go figure. Tears of the clown and all that.
NOTES AND QUESTIONS FOR YOU!
Here’s the note:
*I plan to rework this chai cookie recipe to make a sturdier cookie that will be better for holiday gift giving, because, while I loved them, they crumble too easily to travel far.
Here are the questions:
*Mid-terms elections and the holiday season are coming, which means we need to start planning for our solacing, calming, possibly joyful, food, drink, pies and cookies needs now. *Which guests do you want to hear from? *Are there other world and cultural topics you need expert advice and insight from? *Who do you want to bake with and listen to talk about politics? *Are there foods and drinks you crave and/or need recipes for? Sweet, savory or liquid!
